Oral medicine is a branch in dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and management of oral manifestation of systemic diseases such as diabetes, infections, nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune disorders etc. Periodontists also play a key role in early detection of oral cancers and reduce the risk of sinister lesions to progress into advance stages of cancer.
Diagnoses, treats and rehabilitates diseases and conditions that affect the supporting structures of teeth such as the gums and underlying bone and ligaments that ensure teeth are stable. Other aesthetic procedures include correction of receding gums and correction of a "gummy smile".
Implantology includes the planning and placement of dental implants. An implant is a metal fixture that is surgically inserted into your jawbone and mimics your tooth root. the implant is then restored using an implant crown that looks like a tooth. Dental implants are a fixed solution to replacing lost teeth in order to restore function and aesthetics.
